Background

In 2011, the patient unfortunately experienced a stroke that inflicted severe limb motor dysfunction, most prominently on the left side of his body. Although the right side of his body is capable of performing lifting actions, it noticeably lacks strength. The left limb is severely impaired, with the left hand and left lower limb being completely immobile. He is able to walk independently, yet his movements are notably slow and laborious. Since the onset of the disease, he has been consistently undergoing physical therapy. However, despite his perseverance and the efforts of medical staff, there has been no remarkable improvement so far.

Pre-Treatment Condition (Before the First Course of Treatment)

• A lack of bilateral limb strength. As a result, when sleeping, he encounters great difficulties in turning over. This not only disrupts the patient's sleep quality but also poses potential risks such as skin breakdown due to prolonged immobility in one position.

• Patient's gait is unstable, with a heavy reliance on the right-side limbs for support and movement. This uneven distribution of weight and movement reliance can lead to over-exertion of the right-side muscles and joints, increasing the likelihood of muscle fatigue, joint pain, and further gait - related problems in the long run.

• The deformation of the left-hand joints has rendered the patient unable to move independently. Simple daily activities like grasping objects, buttoning clothes, or writing have become arduous tasks, severely limiting the patient's self care ability and quality of life.

First Course of  Stem Cell Treatment  (Apr 2016  )

Treatment Methods:
Lumber puncture

Outcomes After the First Course of Treatment

•  Following the second lumbar puncture, the patient has noticed a significant improvement in limb strength. This new-found ability not only enhances the patient's comfort during rest but also reduces the risk of complications associated with immobility, such as pressure ulcers.

•  The strength of the patient's left limb has increased remarkably. As a result, the patient can walk more steadily than before. This improvement in walking stability not only boosts the patient's mobility but also provides a sense of confidence, allowing the patient to engage in more activities and regain a greater degree of independence in daily life.

Progress Summary & Future Outlook

The positive changes after the second lumbar puncture are highly encouraging. Looking ahead, with continued medical care and appropriate rehabilitation, the patient can expect even more substantial improvements.
