Ameer, a 14-year-old male from Saudi Arabia, is afflicted with the sequela of brain injury. In April 2010, he unfortunately encountered a car accident. A head CT at that time showed epidural hematoma in the bilateral temporal and frontal areas.
He was admitted to our hospital mainly due to the poor flexibility of his left limbs. The treatment marks an important step in his journey towards potential recovery.
Pre-Treatment Condition (Before the First Course of Treatment)
• He demonstrated normal logical thinking, being able to analyze and reason in a satisfactory manner.
• His comprehension of questions was also at an acceptable level, allowing him to understand what was being asked.
• However, his memory capacity was weak. He had difficulty retaining and recalling information.
• His speech ability was functional, but he spoke at a slow pace, taking more time to articulate his thoughts.
• The flexibility of his left upper limb was notably inferior to that of his right upper limb, which affected his daily activities involving the use of his hands.
• He was capable of sitting, standing, and walking independently. Nevertheless, he walked with a limp, which could potentially impact his mobility and physical endurance.
First Course of Stem Cell Treatment (June, 2012)
Outcomes After the First Course of Treatment
• His cognitive ability has seen a significant boost, allowing him to process information more effectively. His memory, which was once a weak point, has improved substantially, enabling him to recall things much better.
• His speech has also made great strides. Not only has his speech ability improved significantly, but the speed of his speech is now normal, making conversations smoother.
• The flexibility of his left upper limb, which was previously a problem, has been notably enhanced. This improvement in limb function will greatly facilitate his daily activities.
• Most impressively, he can now walk with a normal gait. This means he has overcome the limp that once affected his mobility, allowing him to move around with ease and confidence. Overall, these improvements mark a major step forward in his recovery.
Progress Summary & Future Outlook
Ameer's current progress is highly encouraging, indicating a bright future ahead. With his cognitive, memory, speech, limb flexibility, and gait improvements, continuous development is expected.
In the future, his cognitive skills may further enhance, enabling him to engage in more complex learning and social interactions. These progress will gradually lead him back to a full-fledged, normal life.
